Que les choses soient bien claires, la première couverture de Rêve…, j’en suis plutôt fière – elle marque mes balbutiements dans le monde de l’édition et de la toute première publication ebook de ma suite de mots. Seulement voilà, si l’aventure Bookstory semblait intéressante à première vue, force est de constater que le concept ne marche pas. Défaut de professionnalisme de l’équipe ? Manque de réalisme ? Malheureusement oui. Il y a deux ans, l’idée de voir mon œuvre enfin choisie par un comité de lecture me faisait l’effet d’un shoot au protoxyde d’azote. L’hilarité n’a cependant pas duré. Il a été question de revoir la fourchette des prix : 6€ pour un ebook de 300 pages, OK ; 6€ ou 4€ pour un ebook d’à peine 50 pages, c’est pour le moins ridicule. La couverture et le synopsis auront beau être sympatoches, je ne l’achèterais pas moi-même. Sujet abordé au moment de la signature du contrat d’édition et… et nothing, zilch, nada, que dalle ! Il a été question de créer de nouvelles couvertures – why not – bien avant celle des nouveaux noms de collection, il y a plus d’un an. Deux trois mails plus que sporadique, pas l’ombre d’une proposition ! Il a été question de formation à l’autopromotion via vidéoconférences régulières. Une seule vidéo conférence, l’année dernière !	Let’s be clear here, the first cover of Rêve…, I’m rather proud of it – it marked my beginnings in the publishing world and the very first ebook publication of my series of words. But here the thing, if the adventure with Bookstory seemed interesting at first, there is no choice but to accept that the concept doesn’t work. Lack of professionalism from the team? Lack of realism? Unfortunately, yes. Two years ago, the idea of seeing my work finally chosen by a supervisory committee had the effect of a nitrogen protoxide shot. However, the mirth was short-lived. There has been talk of revising the price bracket: 6€ for a 300-page ebook, OK; 6€ or 4€ for a 50-or-so-page ebook, that’s ridiculous at the very least. No matter how neat the cover and the synopsis, even I wouldn’t buy it. Subject approached when the publishing contrast has been signed and… and nothing, zilch, nada, que dalle! There has been talk of creating new covers – why not – long before the creation of new collection names, more than a year ago. Two or three isolated emails, not a shadow of a proposition! There has been talk of a formation on self-advertisement via regular video conferences. Only one video conference, last year!
Aussi, de déception en déception, ne voyant aucune réelle concrétisation, germa l’idée d’en créer une nouvelle couverture moi-même et d’attendre que certaines clauses du contrat d’édition soient remplies avant de me tourner vers une autre porte : l’auto-édition. En toute franchise, ces derniers mois, Rêve… est resté sur le site de Bookstory uniquement pour la vitrine et une présence sur le net. Tout cela en attendant de trouver un site d’auto-édition qui me convienne. Entrée en scène de Smashwords. Qui dit nouvelle expérience d’édition, dit nouvelle couverture, donc changement radical dans la composition de la couverture : claire, épurée, voire même une mise en abîme graphique du titre et de ma suite de mots. Le rêve est un temps en suspension. Le titre, suivi de points de suspension, souligne ce temps. L'ombre portée du titre donne l'impression que le titre lui-même, et par extension l'histoire, est un temps en suspension.	Therefore, from one disappointment to the next, seeing no real concretization coming, the idea of creating my own new cover and of waiting for the fulfillment of some clauses of the publishing contract in order to move on to another path – self-publishing – took shape. Quite frankly, lately, Rêve… only remained on the Bookstory website for the display and the presence on the Internet. And this until I find a self-publishing plateform to my liking. Entrance of Smashwords. A new publishing experience means a new cover, hence a drastic change of the making up of the cover: clear, clean, a graphic mise-en-abîme even of the title and of my series of words. The dream is a time in suspension. The title, followed by suspension points, enhances this time. The projected shadow of the title gives the impression that the title itself, and the story by extension, is a time in suspension.
Vous pouvez dorénavant trouver ma suite de mots Rêve… en pré-vente sur Smashwords et Apple iBookstore pour $0,99 (0,88€) jusqu’à sa publication le 1er novembre 2015. Dès le 1er novembre 2015, en plus d’être distribué directement sur la plateforme de Smashwords et sur Apple iBookstore, l’ebook sera distribué entre autre sur Kobo (Fnac), OverDrive, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor Axis 360 et Inktera. Le prix de l’ebook devrait monter à $1,12 (0,99€) mais je me réserve  le choix de le maintenir à $0,99. Quoi qu’on en dise, la bête noire d’un auteur, si ce n’est le syndrôme de la page blanche, c’est bien la lecture des chroniques que l’on écrit sur ses suites de mots. Et pour cause ! Une chronique, positive ou négative, une fois publiée, pas moyen d’en esquiver les conséquences. C’est l’échafaud ou la bouffée d’oxygène. Je ne fais pas exception, cette première chronique, je l’espérai autant que je la craignais. Au final, la première chronique se révèle être une vraie bouffée d’oxygène.	No matter what they say, the pet hate of writers, if not the writer’s block, definitively is the reading of reviews written about their series of words. And for good reason! A chronicle, positive or negative, once online, there’s no way to dodge the consequences. It’s either the scaffold or a breath of fresh air. I’m no exception, this first chronicle, I expected it and dreaded it all the same. In the end, the first chronicle turns out to be a real breath of fresh air.

Translation of the chronicle: My thanks go to the author for suggesting me the new version of this short story (the former one being in my To-Read Pile but not read).  Ragazza can’t get over the fact she and her friend parted ways a few months back. She’s trying to put her feeling on paper when someone knocks on the door. Both characters are nameless. The main heroine writes poetry, samples of which are present in the reading. Byam Jinx Oxymoron’s pen is also quite poetic. A short-story full of strong emotions. This story is an extension of the author’s pen – overflowing with sensitivity, sensuality, beauty and intensity. A moving story. Quite the discovery. / Rêve... /

Et justement il y a des échanges entre les auteurs et les lecteurs, certains commentaires m’ont poussée à remanier un tant soit peu ma suite de mots Rêve… La version 2.0 de Rêve… est actuellement disponible en format eBook. A noter que les personnes qui ont déjà téléchargée la première version peuvent le faire avec la version 2.0 sans débourser quoi que soit de plus ! Je ne sais pas pour vous, mais je trouve le nouveau blog de BookStory plutôt bien nommé: BiStory. C'est chouette, non ?	I can't speak for you, but I find the new blog of BookStory aptly named: BiStory. Neat, don't you think? (Okay, maybe not so obvious for you, English-only-speaking readers)

L'idée derrière est particulièrement plaisante - comparer la plume d'un auteur au bistouri d'un chirurgien... Faudra songer à dire merci à Guillaume Fournier pour cette trouvaille ! Un design flambant neuf : pro, plus sobre que le précédent blog - plus complet avec ses news sur le monde de la littérature et du livre numérique, ses interviews d'auteurs (dont la mienne), ses suggestions de lecture. D'ailleurs, si j'écris ce post c'est bien pour parler de BookStory - ou plutôt de son concept ! Jouer les intermédiaires entre auteurs, lecteurs, éditeurs - cette boîte se veut être une e-boussole où les lecteurs notent, commentent, échangent avec les auteurs ; où les auteurs se braquent pas sur les commentaires, les considèrent, remanient éventuellement leurs suites de mots; où les éditeurs font leur marché sur une plate-forme numérique. Le credo de la boîte : Lisez aujourd'hui ce que tout le monde lira demain. A un auteur un style, un talent pour choisir ses mots, une Histoire à raconter, une vision à partager. A un auteur une écriture affûtée. Rien de présomptueux ou de décalé à comparer un auteur à un chirurgien, tout est une question de précision et de détail. Et tout comme le chirurgien doit avoir une main sûre, savoir accepter la critique et remettre en question sa technique si nécessaire; l'auteur a ses idiosyncrasies stylistiques, doit savoir accepter la critique et remanier son phrasé si nécessaire. C'est ce que propose de faire BookStory via les échanges entre auteurs et lecteurs. Les commentaires mettent parfois en lumière des lourdeurs, des incohérences, des points qui nous tarabustent - nous auteurs - sans que nous ne parvenions pour autant à mettre le doigt dessus. A être trop proche d'un texte, il est souvent difficile d'avoir le recul nécessaire pour débusquer une faiblesse. C'est ce qu'il s'est passé pour Rêve... Suite à des commentaires critiques,  ma suite de mots est en cours de remaniement (il ne reste plus que la dernière partie à revoir), pour son plus grand bien. Elle sera donc bientôt délestée de ses lourdeurs et de ce petit je-ne-sais-quoi qui pouvait perturber la lecture. En d'autres termes, il y a eu quelques coups de bistouri.

The idea behind this name is rather pleasant - comparison of an author's nib with a surgeon's scalpel (bistouri in French, I bet you can see the pun now?)... Gotta think thanking Guillaume Fournier for this find! One brand new design: pro and sober than the former one - more complete with its news on the literature and ebook universe, its authors interview (mine included - English translation), its reading suggestions. Besides, if I'm actually writing this post it is to talk about BookStory - rather about its concept! Playing the go-between with authors, readers, publishers - this compagny aims at being an e-compass where readers mark, comment, discuss with the authors; where authors don't dig their heels in comments, study them, possibly re-work their series of words; where publishers do their shopping on an e-platform. The company's credo: Read today what everyone will read tomorrow. To an author a writing style, a talent to pick their words, a Story to tell, a vision to share. To an author a keen writing. Nothing presumptuous or peculiar comparing an author to a surgeon, it's all about precision and detail. And just as a surgeon has to have a skillful hand, to be able to accept critics and re-assess their art if necessary; an author has their own stylistic idiosyncrasies, has to be able to accept critics and re-work their phasing if necessary. That's what BookStory suggests to do via the exchanges between authors and readers. Comments sometimes highlight ponderousness in style, inconsistencies, points that bother us - authors - without us being able to put our finger on it. Being too close of a text, weaknesses are quite difficult to dig out without the necessary perspective. That's what happenned with Rêve... Further to critical comments, my series of words is currently undergoing some re-working (there is only the last part left to go through), for its own benefit. It will be soon relieved of its ponderousness and of this tiny je-ne-sais-quoi that could have troubled the reading. In other words, scalpel cuts happenned.

... un sms. Ma tante m'invite à jeter un coup d’œil sur un site, celui de Bookstory. La curiosité me pique. L'œil est jeté. L'attention est retenue. Et me voilà à fouiller de fond en comble ce site au concept plus que novateur : jouer les intermédiaires entre auteur et éditeur, et endosser le rôle de boussole éditoriale. Après tout... why not? Il y a encore quelques temps, les nouvelles n'étaient publiées qu'en recueil. Maintenant, possibilité m'est proposée de publier une de mes nouvelles en format eBook et de la publier SEULE ! Cela aurait été idiot de ne pas tenter l'expérience, vous ne croyez pas ? Le truc avec cette boîte, c’est que je peux associer ma propre couverture à ma suite de mots ! Pour l’aficionado de la photo que je suis, me voilà d'autant plus emballée ! Ma couverture était déjà toute trouvée : je modifie un tantinet le cliché, y ajoute titre et nom de plume. Ta-daaa... ! Le tour est joué. Ni une, ni deux, j'envoie mon tapuscrit avec sa couverture Made in Bibi. Nous sommes le 12 Février. Quelques semaines et un mail plus tard, nous sommes le soir du 24 Avril. Un appel manqué. Un message sur le répondeur. Une écoute. Deux écoutes ! (au cas où, on ne sait jamais) Un sourire béat qui se dessine sur les lèvres. Vous l'aurez deviné, je venais de louper la confirmation en direct, par Guillaume Fournier, de la validation de ma suite de mots par le comité de lecture de Bookstory ! Un Yes! retentissant et deux poings jetés en l'air plus tard, je rappelle cet Hermès des temps modernes. La conversation est pour ainsi dire un monologue : je suis à peine capable de sortir deux phrases et de convenir de se recontacter pour organiser une rencontre. C'était un soir de pleine Lune...	… a text message. My aunt encouraged me to take a look at a website, Bookstory’s website. Curiosity is inspired. The look is taken. The attention is attracted. And here I was rummaging in this website from top to bottom, its concept is more than innovative: playing the middleman between author and publisher, and shouldering the role of an editorial compass. After all… pourquoi pas? Only a while ago, short stories were only published in collections. Today, opportunity is given to me to publish one of me short stories as an eBook and to publish it ON ITS OWN! It would have been idiotic of me not to give it a go, don’t you think? The thing with this company is that I can attach my own cover to my series of words!  For the photo aficionado that I am, I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about it! My cover already was the ready-made thing: I alter the picture just a tiny bit, add title and pen name. Ta-daaa…! The trick is done. Without even thinking twice, I sent my typescript with its cover Made in Yours Truly. That was February 12th. A few weeks and an email later, that was April 24th at night. One missed phone call. One message left on the answering machine. One listening. Two listening! (just in case, you never know) One blissful smile forming on my lips. You guessed it, I had just missed the live confirmation, by Guillaume Fournier, that my series of words had been peer-reviewed and approved by the board of Bookstory! One resounding Yes! and two tight fists shot in the air later, I called this modern time Hermes back. The conversation was more or less a monologue: I barely managed to get two sentences straight and agreed to another call in order to organize a meeting. That was on a full moon night…
2013-04 24 ¤ Cheery Moon
Je ne sais pas pourquoi, j'ai eu comme une envie impérieuse d'immortaliser cette soirée-là... Digression à part, je reçois dans la semaine le contrat d'édition pour lecture et rendez-vous est pris pour le  3 Mai. Direction Toulon, place de la Liberté à 13h. Surexcitée comme une puce, je prévois large et arrive en avance au lieu de rendez-vous. Le temps de casser la croûte au Quick du coin, d'y croiser le regard d'un motard qui vient de sortir un mouchoir de son sac (ne me demandez pas pourquoi j'ai retenu ce détail) et de me calmer un peu, me voilà dehors, assise au pied de la Fontaine de la Fédération, à profiter du soleil.	I don’t know why, I’ve felt like I was having this compelling urge to immortalize this very moment… Digression aside, the following week I received a publisher’s contract to read and arrangement to meet was made for May 3rd. Towards Toulon, place de la Liberté at 1:00 PM. About ready to burst at the seam with excitement, I anticipated quite a bit and arrived early at the meeting place. Just the time to have a bite to eat at the local Quick, to catch the eyes of a biker who just got a handkerchief from his satchel (don’t ask me why I remember this detail) and to calm down a little, there I was, outside, sitting at the base of the Fontaine de la Fédération, enjoying the sun.

Le temps de prendre quelques clichés, je m'installe de manière à surveiller la place. Il est 12h35, j'ai encore du temps devant moi. Je m'occupe comme je peux. Ma fébrilité empêche toute concentration. Bloc-notes et stylo, je dessine la scène de la suite de mots du moment. Lieu. Meubles. Lumière. J'ajuste la position des personnages. Mon téléphone sonne. Ah ! Je m'en saisis tout en fouillant la place du regard. Le motard est à une dizaine de mètres, téléphone en main. Tiens, tiens... Je jette un œil sur l'écran du téléphone : Guillaume Fournier, 12h55. Je réponds. Je l'avais soupçonné, j'ai rendez-vous avec le motard ! Comme quoi, la vie est étrangement faite. S'ensuit une discussion d'un peu plus d'une heure autour d'un café. Des idées fleurissent. Par trois fois, l'encre noircit un contrat d'édition. LE contrat d'édition. Le tout premier. Et comme toutes les premières fois, ça fait un petit quelque chose. Achevé au bout de 9 mois, Rêve... voyait le jour en 2009. C'est mon bébé. D'encre et de papier, certes, mais mon bébé quand même. Quatre ans plus tard, nous y voilà, le format eBook de ma nouvelle est disponible ! Et si en plus, ma suite de mots est plébiscitée, elle pourrait voir le jour en format papier ! De quoi faire rêver ! Une nouvelle page s'écrit... grâce à un sms et à Bookstory. C'était l'histoire de la signature ! My restlessness kept me from any focusing. Notepad and pen, I was drawing the scene of the current series of words. Place. Furniture. Light. I was adjusting the characters position. My phone rang. Ah! I grabbed it glancing around the square. The biker was about ten meters away, phone in hand. Well, well… I took a look at my phone screen: Guillaume Fournier, 12:55 PM. I answered it. I had suspected it; I was having a meeting with the biker! Just goes to show that life is odd that way. Followed on a discussion over a coffee that lasted a little more than an hour. Ideas flourished. Thrice, ink blackened a publisher’s contract. THE publisher’s contract. The very first one. And just like any other first time, it does a little something. Brought to an end after 9 months, Rêve… saw the light of day in 2009. It’s my baby. Of ink and paper, certainly, but my baby nonetheless. Four years later, here we are, the eBook form of my short story is available! And if in addition my series of words is overwhelmingly supported, the print version could be seeing the light of day! That’s something to stir your imagination! A new chapter was beginning… thanks to a text message and to Bookstory. That was the story of the signature!

Tous mes précédents blogs sont maintenant fermés et supprimés. Et pour être tout à fait honnête, je ne comptais pas en créer un nouveau. Seulement voilà... il y avait une raison qui motivait la fermeture de ces blogs : je voulais entrer dans la cour des grands et me faire publier ! Et oui. Le rêve d'une gamine de 12 ans que je voulais réaliser... Et il y a une raison qui motive la création de ce blog : le rêve de cette gamine de 12 se réalise, 16 ans plus tard, avec la toute première publication ebook d'une de ses nouvelles. Je vous le donne en mille, cette nouvelle s'intitule Rêve... ! Cette réalisation a pu voir le jour grâce à Guillaume Fournier, fondateur de Bookstory, et son comité de lecture éclectique. Un grand merci à eux pour ce petit mot de trois lettres qui fait toute la différence !

All of my previous blogs are shut down and deleted at this point. And to be totally honest, I didn’t intend to get another one started. But here the thing… there was a reason that justified shutting down those blogs: I wanted to be up there with the leaders and get myself published! Yep. The dream of 12-year-old youngster that I wanted to make come true… And there is reason that justifies getting this new blog started: the 12-year-old youngster’s dream is becoming a reality, 16 years later, with the very first ebook publication of a short story of mine. I bet you’ll never guess, this short story is entitled Rêve… (literally dream in English)! Thanks to Guillaume Fournier, founder of Bookstory, and his eclectic jury, it has been possible for this achievement to see the light of day. A big thank you to them for the tiny three-letter word that makes all the difference!
